45 Province will be a 32 story high end residential condominium building located on Boston’s
Beacon Hill, and near Downtown Crossing. J. Derenzo Company is performing the earth support and
deep foundation excavation for Suffolk Construction, the general contractor. The earth support
and excavation consist of drilling steel soldier piles and installing wood lagging between as the
excavation advances lower. There will be two levels of internal steel bracing. The foundation
will be about 45 feet deep, enough for 4 levels of underground parking. Space is so tight that
car elevators will be used within the parking garage rather than ramps. The volume of soil to
be excavated and removed is about 20,000 cubic yards.
