The Carruth/Ashmont Station

The Carruth is a transit-oriented development that involves the construction of 116 units
of mixed income housing and approximately 10,000 square feet of neighborhood retail on a site
directly adjacent to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority‘s Ashmont Peabody Square
Station in the heart of historic Peabody Square. The building is a six-story structure with
one floor of neighborhood retail and five stories of housing. J. Derenzo Company’s work on
the project includes the following:
- Site Demolition
- Installation of soldier piles and lagging support for the excavation;
- Installation of a soil nail wall support system for the excavation;
- Dewatering during construction activities;
- Mass excavation and disposal of 11,000 cubic yards of contaminated soils;
- Foundation excavation and backfill;
- Over excavation and replacement of sub grade for MBTA Parking Lot;
- Site utilities including water, sewer and drainage;
- Installation of granite curbing;
- Roadway construction
