Client: Samuels & Associates and Suffolk Construction
Location: 1330 Boylston Street, Boston
Schedule: November 2006-2008
Contract Value: $6.3 Million
1330 Boylston Street is a high-end mixed use complex located in Boston’s Fenway area, right
behind Fenway Park. J. Derenzo Co is performing the earth support, excavation, and utility work
for Suffolk Construction, the general contractor. The earth support and excavation consist of
driving 1,000 LF of interlocked steel sheeting deep into the clay layer. The steel sheeting and
two levels of internal steel bracing support the earth and provide a barrier for the high
groundwater level, permitting the deep excavation and underground parking garage construction.
The foundation hole is up to 37-feet deep and the volume of soil to be excavated and removed is
about 48,000 cubic yards.
